Women and Youth Empowerment project

The Women and Youth Empowerment Project aims at promoting employability through investing in skills development and apprenticeships for women and youth; helping in creating new job opportunities; building the capacities of the NGOs within Assuit, Menia, Bani Sueif, and Sohag; and engaging SMEs in creating new job opportunities through CSR activities relevant to their core business, size and nature. And as engaging the private sector is one of the main objectives of the project, collaborations with Nestle, Unilever, and Senyorita took place to secure opportunities for the beneficiaries in Assiut and open more channels for them, broadening the spectrum of services and benefits provided by the project. The training phase in Assuit governorate was attended by 13 NGOs, 327 Beneficiaries, and 76 entrepreneurs. On another front, CSSC team and the project partners are starting the implementation phase in an effort to secure loans and private sector opportunities for the beneficiaries.

NGOs Award of Excellence 2018

In light of the outstanding success achieved by the Award of Excellence, PDF continues its support to the Egyptian Civil society by launching the NGOs Award of Excellence for the third year announced during a press conference held on May 13th, 2018, and attended by a large number of reporters from reputable TV channels and Newspapers. The Excellence Award is a PDF initiative under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Solidarity, aiming at developing and supporting the civil society sector with an emphasis on providing the right measures to upgrade their professional and administrative capabilities as well as motivating innovation, and NGOs promotion of core competencies before the private sector entities thus supporting the substantial projects in the areas of development to contribute in social problems solving. Interested NGOs registered for the Award through the application that was available on PDF website until July 5th 2018.
205 NGOs registered on PDF website during the registration phase, NGOs were granted a one month to submit their documents. The Internal Committee reviewed and evaluated the documents submitted by the organizations, 32 NGOs were qualified to the External Judges Committee, The NGOs presentations took place during September and October 2018. Final Judges committee will take a place during November 2018. The winners NGOs will be announced during the grand ceremony that will take place in December 2018.

NGOs Capacity Building Program

Complementing Civil Society Support Center’s efforts in supporting NGOs and developing effective and well-managed organizations that make best use of their human and financial resources to maintain business sustainability, a new round of the NGOs Capacity Building Program was held in Sohag Governorate from March to May 2018, serving NGOs in Sohag Governorate. The training was attended by 42 participants from 13 NGOs. All the participants received the intensive training program and submitted their strategic plans, and started implementing what they learned during the training inside their organizations.

PDF Launches NGOs Award of Excellence

Ashoka Arab World Initiative: A Better Future for Homeless Children

The initiative is an endeavor generated as a collaboration with Ashoka Fellows and homeless children associations. The initiative aims at improving the living conditions and the services provided to homeless children in their respective shelters and reception centers run by local NGOs for more influential social impact. The initiative will work on organizing and providing a range of workshops and training courses for staff members affiliated to these associations as well as equipping the homeless children with the required skills and information for better life.

New Draft Law for NGOs in Egypt

In July 2015, the Ministry of Social Solidarity announced that it had finalized a new draft NGO law to replace Law No. 84 of 2002 on Associations and Foundations, and sent it to the Council of Ministers for review. The NGO law is expected to be addressed by the incoming Parliament following parliamentary elections planned for October and November 2015. In the meantime, NGOs in Egypt remain subject to a Ministry Order issued in the summer of 2014, under which “all entities conducting civil society activities” in Egypt were instructed to register under Law 84 or be subject to investigation or possible prosecution.

$15 million worth of new environmental projects in Egypt

The Ministry of Environment in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the technical support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has succeeded in obtaining a new package of grants from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) worth $11 million to implement three projects within the national environmental priorities and promote Egypt’s partnership with the international community as regards to the implementation of international environmental conventions. Additionally, the Government of Italy has provided $4 million to implement the Third Phase of the Egyptian-Italian Environmental Cooperation Programme (EIECP), which is implemented under the supervision of UNDP
